I made a car trip with my father to Northern Finland. On the way to see Brown bears we stopt to see Silent people, Hiljainen kansa. Freelance dancer and choreographer Reijo Kela, who made those peat-headed people, was born in Suomussalmi. The Silent people’s location is approximately 30 kilometers North on Highway 5 (E 63) from the Suomussalmi town center. GPS East: 35 89 671, North: 72 23 266. And there was a map where you could add a pin to show where you live. So we added our owns also.
People often ask what precisely is the idea behind the Silent People. A state of psychological withdrawal? The mute Kainuu soul? A forgotten people? Reijo Kela refuses to provide any answer. Viewers are free to come to their own conclusions. It may, however, be of interest to learn that if the Silent People were to be completely undressed there would remain some one thousand wooden crosses standing in the field.
We were looking for the king of Finnish forest’s and European largest carnivora, Brown bear, Ruskea karhu (Ursus arctos) at Suomussalmi Finland. It’s our national animal. We also saw great birds Black Kite, Haarahaukka (Milvus migrans) and Golden Eagle, Maakotka (=kotka) (Aquila chrysaetos).
Blue color means the name in Finnish.

We began our way back home on morning and stopt our car few times to see some (&historically-) interesting places. We were stopt once by a reindeer mom and child, who were walking across the road.
Very nice trip!!
